Box Score (vs. Aurora)

AURORA, Ill. – Edgewood College entered the day in first place in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference, but a 1-1 record on the day wasn't good enough to keep them there. The Eagles defeated Rockford University 7-2 in the morning match, but dropped a narrow 5-4 decision to Aurora University in the afternoon match.

Against the shorthanded Regents, the Eagles received three free points, as Rockford University (0-6, 0-6 NACC) fielded just four players. Brian Davenport won his match with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 score at No. 2 singles, and paired with Michael Wanta to win at No. 1 doubles 8-3. Wanta and Austin Papenthien also won their singles matches.

Edgewood College (8-15, 6-2 NACC) fell behind 2-1 after doubles action against the Spartans. Papenthien and Patrick Lagman claimed the No. 1 doubles match with an 8-4 victory over Brian Koski and Ricky Hernandez. The Eagles needed to claim four of the six singles matches, but only won the first three flights. Papenthien, Lagman and Davenport took their matches, but the Eagles couldn't find that elusive fifth match victory.

With their win today, the Eagles clinched a spot in the NACC Tournament, but their seed is yet to be determined. Edgewood College has a non-conference match with the University of Dubuque on Monday, before their final regular season match against Marian University on Wednesday.
