VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood College men's soccer team honored their seniors on Wednesday night, but it was Concordia University Wisconsin who did the celebrating. The Falcons scored twice late in the first half and claimed a 2-0 victory at Reddan Soccer Park. Edgewood College falls to the sixth seed for the NACC Tournament, which begins on Sunday.
Concordia University Wisconsin (7-10-2, 5-4-1 NACC) dominated the shot count 13-0 in the first half, but didn't score until the 33rd minute. The Falcons' Luis Loya attacked near the end line and laid a pass back to the middle where Jordan Moehn beat Eagles' goalkeeper Matt Dammen for his seventh goal of the year. In the 41st minute, Loya set up another goal, this time feeding Keeg Van Dusseldorp on through ball, to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead.
Edgewood College (9-8-1, 5-5 NACC) cracked the shots column in the second half on a great opportunity from senior Stephen Gilbert in the 50th minute. Gilbert split the Falcons' defense on a dribble and laced a shot that CUW goalkeeper Eric Vogel pushed wide. The ball came right back in on a cross from Luke Miller, but Gilbert's header just missed the left post. Jacob Overman's blast from 20 yards in the 57th minute and Max Harty's header in the 80th minute were both saved by the Faclons' substitute goalkeeper Alec Brew.
With the loss, Edgewood College slips to sixth place and will travel to No. 3 seed Benedictine University for a NACC First Round match on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Last season, the sixth-seeded Eagles won two matches and advanced all the way to the NACC Championship match.
Wednesday night's match marked the final home game for six Edgewood College seniors: Dammen, Gilbert, Kelmend Isaj, Jacob Overman, Thini Messan and Alexander Ribeiro.
