MILWAUKEE, Wis. - In a preview of Saturday's first-round NACC matchup, the Edgewood College women's soccer team allowed a pair of late goals and dropped their final regular season game to the MSOE Raiders by a score of 2-0. Sara Travia scored her 16th goal of the year in the 73rd minute while Natalie Gayner provided some insurance with a tally with less than a minute left.
The Edgewood College women's soccer team entered Tuesday night's match against MSOE already aware that they would meet the Raiders again on Saturday at home in a first-round NACC matchup, as the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons won their game earlier today to secure the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye. The Eagles will host the Raiders at Breese Stevens Field at 1 pm on Saturday, Nov. 1. The winner will advance to the semifinals on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
Eagles senior goalkeeper Tori Fortney was at her best for most of the match and stopped five shots before Travia broke free and scored after a long run into the box midway through the second. The Eagles racked up four shots in the 14 minutes prior to Travia's goal, but that would be it for the Eagles offensively, as they failed to get off another shot the rest of the night.
Edgewood College had seven shots on the night, three of which were on net. Liz Darkow had two of those shots on target and one came right before MSOE's first goal. Natalie Gayner netted the final goal of the game with just 59 seconds remaining to close things out. Mary McFee earned the shutout for the Raiders by stopping three shots.
No. 3 Edgewood College will host No. 6 MSOE on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 1 pm at Breese Stevens Field in the 2014 NACC Women's Soccer Tournament. The winner will advance to the semifinals on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
