Warhawks soar over Eagles

Box Score WHITEWATER, Wis. – For the second time in as many games, the Edgewood College men's soccer team was handed a shutout loss. The Eagles traveled to UW-Whitewater where the Warhawks netted two first half goals to down Edgewood College 2-0.

Edgewood College attacked the goal early with a pair of quick shots, but could not continue the trend as UW-Whitewater (2-0) outshot the Eagles 11-3 in the opening half. In the 34th minute, Xander Lien found Sam Kuchenreuther who put the Warhawks up 1-0 with his second goal of the season. It seemed as Edgewood College (1-0) was headed into the locker room down a goal, but UW-Whitewater struck again at the 42:50 mark. Kody Mjelde took a one-two pass from Kyle Sundby and Jordan Kayser and found the back of the net to put the Warhawks up by two at the break.

The second half seemed to mirror the first, but without any  scoring. The Eagles again struggled to find the net, only attempting four shots without any on goal. UW-Whitewater, on the other hand, attempted nine, but Eagles' Matt Dammen snagged four saves in goal to prevent the Warhawks from tacking on any other scores.

Edgewood College attempted just seven shots in the game with Kelmend Isaj and Stephen Gilbert each ripping a pair. Dammen spent all 90 minutes in goal, grabbing eight saves, but allowing the pair of first half scores.

The Eagles will be back in action on Sunday when they host their first game of the 2013. Edgewood College will face St. Mary's University for a 2:00 p.m. kickoff from Breese Stevens Field. Live stats and live video will be provided with the links available on EdgewoodCollegeEagles.com.
