Eagles strike early in 4-1 win over Ripon

Andrew Aurit
Box Score RIPON, Wis. – The Edgewood College men's soccer team didn't wait for the second half to score this time. They didn't even wait until the second minute. Kelmend Isaj scored 33 seconds into the game, and Andrew Aurit added a goal and an assist in the Eagles' 4-1 victory over Ripon College on Sunday afternoon. The victory extended the Eagles winning streak to three straight games.

After failing to score a first half goal in their first four matches of the season, Edgewood College (3-2) tallied three times before the break on Sunday. Thini Messan assisted both Isaj's goal in the first minute and then Aurit's goal in the 11th minute. The Eagles received a gift in the 28th minute when Ripon College (0-5) tallied an own goal following an Evan Rogaczewski corner kick.

Ripon threatened to make a comeback with a goal from Calvin Manuel just two minutes after halftime, but the Eagles' Alexander Ribeiro answered with a goal, assisted by Aurit, in the 52nd minute. Matt Dammen started in goal for the Eagles and made three saves before yielding to Chad Stivers for the second half. Dammen has now been unscored upon for the past 272 minutes in goal.

Edgewood College has another Midwest Conference opponent, St. Norbert College, next on their schedule. The Eagles will travel to De Pere on Wednesday for that match against the Green Knights.
