Box Score LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Edgewood College men's soccer team tried to negotiate the trees in their season opener but became lost in the forest. Lake Forest College netted three second half goals in a span of 16 minutes to spoil the Eagles' season debut with a 4-0 loss at Farwell Field.
Lake Forest College (1-0) broke through in the eighth minute when Mahir Mameledzija raced up the right side and punched a shot past Eagle goalkeeper Chad Stivers. However, the Eagles would put more shots on goal in the first half 4-2, as Edgewood College (0-1) applied steady pressure. Andrew Aurit hit the crossbar with a header off a corner kick in the 17th minute, and Forester goalkeeper Ian Taylor made four first half saves and six for the game.
The game started to get away from the Eagles in the 62nd minute when Jordan Hartman scored to put Lake Forest ahead 2-0. Just over six minutes later, Mameledzjia added his second goal of the contest and teammate Hugh Watanabe followed with a fourth goal in the 78th minute.
Andrew Aurit led the Eagles with four shots, including two on target, while Alexander Ribeiro launched three shots. Edgewood College held a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks, including six in the second half but couldn't convert on the set-pieces.
Edgewood College will search for their first win of the season this Friday evening, when the Eagles make the short trip to UW-Whitewater to face the Warhawks. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. at Fiskum Field on the UW-Whitewater campus.
