WAVERLY, Iowa – Playing shorthanded for the second day in a row, the Edgewood College men's tennis couldn't come up with their first win of the season. The Eagles dropped a pair of 9-0 decisions, first to host Wartburg College and then again in the afternoon to Central College.
Against the Wartburg College, Tim Morgan and Eric Gavinski pushed Knights' Yusuf Chowdry and Brian Rasmussen to an 8-6 decision at No. 1 doubles. Gavinski also posted the closest singles match losing at the No. 2 position to Rasmussen 6-1, 6-3.
The afternoon match against Central College featured a thriller at No. 3 singles. The Eagles' Patrick Lagman took the first set 7-5 over Central's Collin Schares. Lagman nearly escaped with the victory in the second set, but Schares pulled out a 7-6 win with a 7-4 tiebreaker victory. Lagman and Schares then played a 10-point supertiebreaker, but Schares survived the marathon with a 10-8 win.
Edgewood College will return to action next weekend, with a triangular at UW-Oshkosh next Saturday. The Eagles will play the host Titans at noon, and meet Lawrence University at 4:00 p.m.
