Eagles score final three to top Crusaders

Kelmend Isaj
Box Score WATERTOWN, Wis. – As they have done a majority of the season, the Edgewood College men's soccer team relied on a strong second half to propel them to victory. The Eagles scored the final three goals of the game to down Maranatha Baptist 3-1, extending their unbeaten streak to four games. With the victory, Edgewood College clinched their first winning nonconference season since 2009.

The Crusaders (9-7) struck first as Taylor Pill connected from 25 yards out on a ball that just snuck past Eagles' Chad Stivers outstretched fingers. The Crusaders continued to attack Edgewood College's goal with five shots in the next 15 minutes, but the Eagles connected on just their third attempt of the game to equalize the contest. Keoni Roberson hooked up with Kelmend Isaj, who netted his fourth score of the season. Maranatha Baptist fired three more shots before the break, but all were off the mark.

Edgewood College started to put together their offense, outshooting the Crusaders 7-3 over the first 40 minutes of the second half, but the score remained locked 1-1. At 85:03, the Eagles finally connected on a second half shot for their first lead of the game. Henry Simon beat Crusaders' goalkeeper Alex Kornivsky to a loose ball and pushed it through for the score. Just under three minutes later, Jake Owen hooked up with Andrew Aurit who sliced through the defense and cashed in his sixth goal of the season for a 3-1 cushion.

After Maranatha Baptist outshot Edgewood College 9-3 in the first half, the Eagles returned the favor, holding a 10-3 advantage after halftime. Stivers snagged three saves in the first half, but Matt Dammen earned the win for Edgewood College as he finished the last 45 minutes in the net.

The Eagles will return to NACC competition on Wednesday as Edgewood College welcomes MSOE to Breese Stevens Field. Live stats will be available for the 7:00 p.m. match.
