Box Score RIVER FOREST, Ill. – It wasn't a win, but taking a point off the six-time defending conference champion still feels pretty good. Edgewood College blanked NACC preseason favorite Dominican University in a scoreless tie at the Stars' West Campus Field. For Edgewood College, it was the second tie against the Stars in 14 all-time matches.
Dominican University (7-4-1, 5-1-1 NACC) held a distinct advantage in shots, but the story of the match turned out to be the Eagles back line, anchored by Max Harty, Evan Conrad and Sam Quinones. While Dominican unleashed a massive 38 shots at the Eagles' net, the strong defensive play from the Eagles limited most of those chances to long distance attempts that sailed off target. In fact, Edgewood College goalkeeper was forced to make just four saves despite the Stars 38-8 advantage in shots.
Edgewood College (7-4-2, 3-2-1 NACC) did suffer a heart attack moment deep into the second overtime when Dominican's Sonny Saiz rang the post with a shot. On the other end, the Eagles couldn't match in quantity, but were almost as good in quality, putting three of their eight shots on the frame. Evan Rogaczewski recorded one shot on goal in each half, and Jacob Overman forced a save from Stars' goalkeeper Gabriel Gongora in the first overtime.
The tie snapped the Eagles seven-match losing streak to Dominican University dating back to another 0-0 tie in the 2006 conference tournament final. Edgewood College is 0-12-2 all-time against Dominican. Earlier this season Dominican University had their NCAA record 104-match conference unbeaten streak snapped in a 1-0 loss to Benedictine.
Edgewood College will be back on the road on Tuesday night for another NACC match, this time in Milwaukee against Wisconsin Lutheran College. That match will begin at 7:00 p.m.
