MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College men's soccer team rallied from a halftime deficit to take the lead, only to see Beloit College score an equalizer of their own. The two teams battled through 20 minutes of overtime, but settled for a 2-2 draw to close the opening weekend of the college soccer season.

Beloit College (1-0-1) held a slight advantage in possession for the opening part of the first half, and eventually took advantage of an Edgewood College foul for their first score. Kellen Sullivan lofted a free kick from the left wing, which found the head of Anthony Racine in the penalty area to give the Buccaneers a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute.

Edgewood College (1-0-1) didn't managed a shot on goal the rest of the first half, but when they finally received their first corner kick of the night, they made it count. Freshman Alexander Ribeiro played a low, hard cross into the box, where Andrew Aurit found it. Aurit used a volley kick about a foot off the sod and beat Beloit College goalkeeper B.J. Kiser to his right to tie the game.

The Eagles kept up the pressure and were rewarded with a free kick from about 25 yards, even with the left post. Freshman Sam Quinones, who had come on as a halftime substitute, struck a fantastic shot, that curled around the end of the wall and tucked inside the post. Quinones's strike gave the Eagles a 2-1 lead in the 71st minute.

It took an equally brilliant shot to tie the game again. In the 78th minute Beloit's Tom Slusher found himself 30 yards out with the ball, but with little support from his teammates. Slusher turned and ripped a low shot that went past Edgewood College's goalkeeper Robert Huss and ricocheted off the left post before settling into the net.

The two teams combined for five shots in the first overtime period, but none in the second and were left with a draw. Huss made five saves in his first start of the year for the Eagles.

Edgewood College will make their first road trip of the season on Wednesday, when they travel to Illinois to face another Midwest Conference opponent, Lake Forest College. Game time with the Foresters is 5:00 p.m.
