MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College men's soccer team wasn't about to settle for another tie. Kelmend Isaj scored with 10 minutes to play, while Jake Owen had a goal and an assist in the Eagles 2-1 victory over Wisconsin Lutheran College at Breese Stevens Field on a windy Wednesday night. The win gave the Eagles their first Northern Athletics Conference victory of the season.

After a scoreless first half, it seemed as if one goal would be enough to win the match. It appeared Edgewood College(3-3-2, 1-1 NAC) had that goal in the 59th minute. Sam Quinones delivered a long throw-in toward Isaj in the penalty area, but the throw sailed over Isaj and his defender. Owen trapped the ball off the bounce with his chest and struck a smart volley into the upper right corner of the net. It was Owen's first goal as an Eagle.

Playing with the wind, Wisconsin Lutheran College (3-4, 0-2 NAC) was able to equalize, also beginning from a throw in. Florin Maduta throw-in landed in a crowd of players in the box and after a couple of deflections Mavric Otterstatter poked the ball on net. Eagle goalkeeper Kyle Koenig got a hand on the ball, but couldn't stop it from entering the goal.

Overtime seemed likely for the Eagles again, until the Warriors were whistled for a foul in the center circle in the 80th minute. Evan Conrad served up a long ball, which Owen flicked onward toward the left post with his head. Wisconsin Lutheran goalkeeper Jon Stewart tried to get to it, but Isaj, running in from the left reached it first. Isaj got his foot on the ball and pushed it over Stewart's head for the game-winner.

The Eagles outshot the Warriors 19-6 on the night and were frustrated with three shots that rang off the crossbar. Stewart made four saves for the Warriors, while Koenig earned the win in his first game back after an injury forced him to sit.

Edgewood College heads on to a key NAC showdown with Aurora University on Saturday. The Eagles and Spartans will kick off at 12:00.
