MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College men's soccer team faced a tall task, opening Northern Athletics Conference play with five-time defending league champion Dominican University. The Eagles gave Stars a scare late in the first half, but ultimately couldn't contain Dominican's offense in a 3-1 setback at Breese Stevens Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Stars jumped on the board early with a goal in the fourth minute. Trent Miller served up a long free kick from the left sideline. After the ball took one hop in the box, it found the head of Logan Marvin near the back post who put it away. In the 16th minute the Stars went ahead 2-0, when David Aranda came up from his defensive position and drew the Eagle defense to him. He slid the ball over to Leo Elizalde who walked in on Eagle goalkeeper Matt Dammen and snuck the ball past him.

Edgewood College (2-3-2, 0-1 NAC) had to wait almost 37 minutes for their first shot on goal, but it was worth it. #A.J. Fameree broke into the midfield and fed the ball to Alexander Ribeiro#. Ribeiro took one touch and then laced a 25-yard shot into the far right side netting for the first goal of his collegiate career.

The Eagles held the Stars at bay for much of the second half, until Dominican University (4-1, 1-0 NAC) scored a third goal similar to the first. Miller sent in a long free kick and Edwin Rodriguez headed it in to seal the match in the 83nd minute.

Edgewood College will be right back at Breese Stevens Field on Wednesday night for a Northern Athletics Conference tilt with Wisconsin Lutheran College. Wednesday's match begins at 7:00 p.m.
