ELMHURST, Ill. – The defense kept them in the game, but the offense was unable to find a goal as Elmhurst College sent the Edgewood College men's soccer team down to a 1-0 defeat in a non-conference game Wednesday night. The Eagles gave up 16 shots on goal to the Bluejays, but only three were on target.

Edgewood College (2-2-2) meanwhile, only had four shots, but all were on net forcing two Elmhurst goalkeepers to make a total of four saves. The Eagles actually got the first shot of the game when Paul Domann unleashed a shot in the fourth minute of play. Eagle goalkeeper Matt Dammen kept the Bluejays at bay turning back two shots to keep the game scoreless at halftime.

Dammen made two more saves before Elmhurst College broke through in the 71st minute. The Bluejays' Matt Sterner scored on a shot from just inside the box to give Elmhurst College (4-1) the only goal of the game. In the final 19 minutes, Evan Conrad and Thini Messan each had shots on goal, but both were saved to preserve the Bluejays victory.

The Eagles will return home on Saturday and jump back into Northern Athletics Conference play with a tall order. Edgewood College hosts five-time defending NAC champion Dominican University in their league opener. The match is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
