AURORA, Ill. – The Edgewood College men's soccer team was subjected to a couple of different wake-up calls on Saturday morning. The first was for a 4:30 a.m. bus departure down to Aurora University for their Northern Athletics Conference Tournament first round game which started at 9:30 a.m. The second, and more difficult to overcome, was a goal in the second minute from the fourth-seeded Spartans which propelled them to a 3-0 victory over the Eagles. Edgewood College's season ends with a record of 8-7-3.

Before the two teams had even gotten into the flow of the game, Aurora's Xavier Carrillo struck the first blow. Carrillo scored his seventh goal of the season off an assist from Tony Gutierrez. The Eagles nearly equalized in the 12th minute. Andrew Aurit sent a header past the Nick Sloan, the Aurora keeper, but the ball clanged off the crossbar and the Spartans kept their one-goal lead.

A 1-0 halftime lead for the Eagles to overcome was still very much in reach, until the Aurora University (10-8-1) struck twice in the first seven minutes of the second half. First, it was Pablo Del Toro scoring his first goal of the season in the 49th minute. Three minutes later, Carrillo took a long pass and rifled a low shot past Eagle goalkeeper Kyle Koenig for a 3-0 lead.

The Eagles' best second half chance to score came in the 66th minute. Matt Pampuch's shot was saved by Sloan, but the rebound came to Paul Domann. Domann fired a shot that eluded Sloan, but was cleared off the line by a Spartan defender.

Edgewood College still completes their eighth winning season in the last nine years and 15th overall under head coach Tim Alexander. The Eagles have played in the postseason in 19 seasons in their 22-year history.
