MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Edgewood College men's soccer team has been improving steadily this season, but lacked a signature win to put on their resume. They may have it now. The Eagles stunned Northern Athletics Conference co-leader MSOE 2-0 on their home field. The decision vaulted Edgewood College into fourth place in the league and gave the Raiders their first conference loss.
MSOE (8-5-1, 6-1 NAC) peppered the Edgewood College goal early and often, but Eagle goalkeeper
Kyle Koenig was up to the task. The senior turned away four shots in the first 23 minutes of the match to keep the game scoreless. In the 37th minute, Edgewood College (6-5-3, 4-3-1 NAC) grabbed the lead. Freshman
Kelmend Isaj scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season off an assist from
Evan Conrad.
In the 50th minute a Raider foul resulted in a yellow card on MSOE's Ben Sprecher. On the ensuing free kick,
Sam Quinones struck a shot into the back of the net to put Edgewood College ahead 2-0. The Raiders re-applied the pressure unleashing six more shots, but Koenig held strong making four more saves to preserve the win.
Edgewood College jumps into fourth place in the Northern Athletics Conference standings with 13 points. The Eagles are looking to return to the NAC Tournament after missing the postseason for the first time in their history last season. The Eagles will get eight days off before their next match, a road trip to third place Concordia University Wisconsin.
