ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Edgewood College men's soccer team kept their momentum from Wednesday's home win over MSOE going on Saturday at Rockford College. The Eagles tallied one goal in each of the first and second halves, taking the contest 2-0.
The Eagles (4-8, 3-4 NAC) put pressure on Rockford (0-8-3, 0-4-3 NAC) early, and that pressure finally paid off in the 30th minute.
Zach Miller netted his first goal of the season, and first of his career, as he headed in a cross from
Woody Burns to give the Eagles the lead. Just a minute later the Eagles had a chance to extend the lead, but
Andrew Aurit had his shot blocked.
Greg Dezell tallied his team-leading sixth goal of the season just three minutes into the second half.
Matt Pampuch and
Brad Swenson each tallied assists on the play and the Eagles led 2-0.
The Regents had a shot to cut the deficit in half in the 60th minute, but Nathan Sweet's shot hit the crossbar to keep the lead at 2-0 Eagles. Edgewood College clamped down on the defensive end, only allowing two more Regent shots in the Eagles' 2-0 victory.
Edgewood College outshot the Regents 15-6 in the contest and only one of Rockford's shots was on net. The Eagles' goalkeeper,
Kyle Koenig turned that shot away to preserve his third shutout of the season.
Edgewood College doesn't get to much time off as they host St. Norbert College tomorrow at Breese Stevens Field. The Eagles will be celebrating senior day at halftime of the 12:00 p.m. kickoff. Edgewood College will provide live video and live stats for the contest.
