MADISON, Wis. - Edgewood College's Greg Dezell fired a shot into the corner of the net, and perhaps also gave his Eagle team a shot in the arm for the remainder of the season. Dezell's blast from outside the top of the penalty box turned out to be the only goal in the Eagles' 1-0 victory over MSOE on a beautiful Wednesday night at Breese Stevens Field.

After a scoreless first half that saw the Raiders outshoot Edgewood College 8-3, the Eagles were choosing their moments to go on the attack carefully. The moment came in the 52nd minute. Paul Domann trapped a long pass cleanly near the top of the penalty area, but with his back to the goal. He played the ball off to Dezell, who took one touch to his left and fired a left-footed shot at Raider goalkeeper Jon Cerny. The blast dialed in on the upper left corner of the net, leaving Cerny no chance to make the save.

MSOE (4-7, 3-2 NAC) regrouped quickly and had two solid chances at a tying goal. The first came almost immediately after Dezell's score. The Raiders' Jimmy Burns found space in the middle of the field, but his long distance effort was nudged over the cross bar by Eagle goalkeeper Kyle Koenig.

The second was in the 71st minute. A cross from the left landed squarely on the foot of Burns who connected for a hard volley. However, the ball buried itself into the chest of Eagle goalkeeper Koenig to smother the threat. Koenig finished the game with five saves for his second win and second shutout of the season.

Edgewood College (3-8, 2-4 NAC) has a full weekend ahead with a road trip to Rockford College on Saturday, followed by a senior day tilt with St. Norbert College on Sunday.
