RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Edgewood College men's soccer team traveled to play Dominican University, who is ranked seventh in the nation on a cold, rainy Saturday afternoon. Some may have thought the conditions may have evened the contest, but the Stars scored jumped out early and didn't look back, taking the game 6-0.
Dominican's Ryan Roberts got the Stars (10-0, 5-0 NAC) on the board early when he took a pass from Edwin Lagunas and buried his shot in the back of the net in the seventh minute. The Stars took a 2-0 lead in the 35th minute. They took a corner kick and the ball bounced off traffic in front of the net for an own goal.
The Stars wasted no time in the second half extending their lead. Nick Kulas placed a ball in front of the Eagle goal and Jeff Atkins headed it in to give Dominican a commanding 3-0 lead.
Greg Dezell tallied the Eagles (2-8, 1-4 NAC) first shot in the 67th minute. His shot sailed high and the score remained 3-0 Dominican.
However, the score did not stay that way for long as the Stars scored just a minute later when Roberts netted his second goal of the game. The Stars' Leo Elizalde scored two goals in the final 12 minutes to make the final score 6-0.
The Eagles were outshot 19-3, with all three shots coming in the second half. Dezell accounted for two shots and
Paul Domann took the other one. Domann's shot was the only shot that was on target for the Eagles.
Edgewood College will try and rebound on Wednesday night when the host MSOE at Breese Stevens Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Edgewood College will provide live stats and live video for the contest.
