MADISON, Wis. - The Edgewood College men's soccer team bounced back from their first Northern Athletics Conference loss of the season with a 3-0 victory over Rockford College. Jerrid Dokey had a hand in all three scores, finishing with one goal and two assists in the victory.
Edgewood College (8-3-2, 5-1 NAC) had the field tilted in their favor right from the beginning of the match, but five shots in the first 30 minutes failed to yield a goal. Finally, in the 31st minute, Dokey created the Eagles' first goal. The senior from Green Bay picked up a loose ball that a Regent defender failed to trap and turned the corner toward the near post. Just before reaching the end line, he slid a pass past Rockford goalkeeper Matt Zawadzki to a wide open Paul Domann who was waiting on the doorstep.
Dokey notched his own goal when Nick Lombardino floated a pass from the right wing in front of the Regents net. Dokey outjumped a Regent defender and scored on a header inside the right post.
The Eagles finished the scoring four minutes into the second half. Dokey found Andriy Apetrey on a short run in the middle of the field, and Apetrey beat Zawadzki for his team-leading eighth goal of the year.
Shane Sullivan and Kyle Koenig combined for the shutout with Koenig making both of the Eagles' saves. Edgewood College enjoyed a 20-6 advantage in shots over the Regents (1-8, 1-6 NAC).
The Eagles will travel to Sheboygan on Tuesday for a NAC pairing with Lakeland College, before returning home for games on Saturday and the following Monday.
