APPLETON, Wis. – On Friday night, it was Edgewood College narrowly missing on a pair of game-winning opportunities against Ripon College. On Saturday, the Eagles kept the pressure on into the extra session and were rewarded with a 1-0 double overtime victory against Lawrence University. Andriy Apetrey collected a pass from Greg Dezell and scored in the 104th minute for the decisive goal.
Until that point, the game was a battle of two outstanding goalkeeping performances. Edgewood College's Shane Sullivan turned away 10 shots including nine in the second half and overtime. Lawrence University's Steven Schnorr was just as good, stopping 11 shots before Apetrey was able to get one past.
The Vikings (0-3) applied most of the pressure in the second half firing off 14 shots to the Eagles' seven, but the momentum changed in the overtime with the Edgewood College (2-2) taking six shots and forcing two corner kicks.
The Eagles will be back at home on Wednesday night for a non-conference tilt with Elmhurst College. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at Breese Stevens Field.
