FOND DU LAC, Wis. – A win and they're in. The Edgewood College men's soccer team got the job done Tuesday night by shutting out Marian University on the road to clinch the fifth seed in the 2008 Northern Athletics Conference Tournament, set to begin on Saturday.

A goal in each half and another solid outing in goal for Shane Sullivan helped the Eagles to a 2-0 win and a trip to the postseason.

Jake Andreska got Edgewood College (9-8-1, 7-3-1 NAC) off to a fast start with a goal in the 25th minute assisted by Andriy Apetrey. At the moment a bit of the pressure was off the offense. Knowing that a tie would be sufficient enough to get into the tourney it was then up to the defense.

The Eagle defense allowed just six total shots and six corner kicks to the Sabres (7-10-1, 5-5-1 NAC). Edgewood College managed 17 shots and one of them provided some much needed insurance in the second half.

In his freshman season, Jerrid Dokey scored twice on the road in Fond du Lac to give the Eagles their last win on the road against Marian. Two years later, Dokey added a crucial 67th minute goal to all but put away the Sabres for good in 2008.

The win for Edgewood College earned them the No. 5 seed in the NAC Tournament and prevented the Sabres from qualifying this season. The Eagles will now look ahead to Saturday for the start of the conference tournament as they will travel to Milwaukee to take on MSOE in first round action. Information on the start time for that match will be provided as it becomes available.

The winner will face either No. 1 seed Aurora University or the No. 2 seed, Concordia Wisconsin, who each earned a first round bye.
