Men's soccer falls to nationally ranked Stars

MADISON, Wis. (Sept. 29, 2007) – In a physical, even match Saturday at Warner Park it was Dominican University that netted a pair of second half goals to defeat Edgewood College in Northern Athletics Conference men’s soccer action, 2-0. The Stars (9-2, 5-0 NAC), ranked No. 21 in NCAA Division III by D3Kicks.com,  have now won nine straight and the last six by way of shutout.

Edgewood College managed to fire off 10 shots on the Stars’ defense, but only two of which were on goal. Meanwhile, Dominican University used 12 shots, one a converted penalty kick in the 71st minute for the team’s second score of the match. The loss dropped Edgewood College to 5-4 overall and 3-1 in the NAC.

Eagle goalkeeper Francisco Yacuta-Santana (Verona, Wis.) allowed just one goal and recorded five saves. With both teams knotted at 0-0 at halftime, it wasn’t until Alex Rowley broke the scoreless tie in the 61st minute on an unassisted goal.

The Stars’ penalty kick was countered by a quick change in goal, however, when Eagles’ head coach Tim Alexander opted for the prowess of 5-foot-6 sophomore forward Jerrid Dokey (Green Bay, Wis.) between the posts. Matt Kochanowski’s kick barely got past the outreached arms of the agile Dokey to sneak into the right corner of the net.

Edgewood College will travel to MSOE on Wednesday, Oct. 3 and won’t play again until an Oct. 9 road match at Lakeland College.
