Boberschmidt, Thompson strike twice in Eagles' win

MADISON, Wis. (Sept. 29, 2007) – Molly Boberschmidt (Waukesha, Wis.) scored twice in the first eight minutes of Saturday’s women’s soccer match against visiting Dominican University at Warner Park and thus helped Edgewood College remain undefeated in the Northern Athletics Conference with a 4-1 win over the Stars.

Boberschmidt wasted little time in giving the Eagles (9-1, 5-0 NAC) the early advantage when she found the back of the net on a pass from Elyse Clouthier (Oconomowoc, Wis.) in the second minute in. Boberschmidt then connected on the eventual game-winner, a penalty kick, in the eighth minute as the Eagles raced out to a 2-0 lead.

A penalty kick was awarded to the Stars’ Mayra Camacho midway through the first half. Camacho capitalized to bring the margin back to one, but solid play by Edgewood College on both sides of the field made the deficit almost insurmountable.

Coming off the bench, Eagles’ leading goal scorer Erika Thompson (Waukesha, Wis.) bent a corner kick that ricocheted off a defender directly into the Stars goal to make it 3-1 in the 52nd minute. Thompson stuck again less than a minute later for her 11th goal of the season off a combination strike fed by Amanda Rhyner (Delavan, Wis.) and Tammi Hagensick (Madison, Wis.).

The loss is the first NAC loss for Dominican University (5-4, 5-1 NAC) this season. Also around the league Saturday, preseason favorite Aurora University handed MSOE its first conference loss leaving the Spartans and Edgewood College as the two unbeaten teams in league play.
