Eagles dominant in runaway win at Ripon

Amanda Rhyner
RIPON, Wis. (Sept. 1) -- Senior Amanda Rhyner (Delavan, Wis.) scored a goal in each half and five other Eagles found the back of the net Saturday as Edgewood College cruised to a 7-1 win in the team's season-opening match at Ripon College.

Tammi Haggensick (Madison, Wis.) scored first at the 19:57 mark on a free kick followed by an Elyse Clouthier (Oconomowoc, Wis.) assist and Erika Thompson (Waukesha, Wis.) goal at 26:06. Haggensick found Rhyner for the Eagles third score of the first half to take a 3-0 lead.

Molly Boberschmidt (Waukesha, Wis.) tallied goal four minutes into the second half, unassisted, as was Rhyner's next score which made it 5-0. The RedHawks lone score came on a penalty kick by Janel Karsten. However, the Eagles countered when freshmen Alice Udelhofen (Spring Green, Wis.) and Angela Colletti (Wales, Wis.) notched their first collegiate goals in back-to-back fashion -- just 42 seconds apart -- in the 72nd minute. The Eagles fired off 23 shots altogether, 14 on goal, while Ripon recorded a total of five shots.

Edgewood College (1-0) travels to St. Norbert College for a 1 p.m. match on Sunday.
