Eagles earn a spot in NAC Tourney with Marian split

MADISON, Wis. (May 2, 2007) – The Edgewood College Eagles (24-10, 14-4 NAC) have guaranteed themselves a spot in the Northern Athletics Conference baseball tournament by winning one of their two games against the Marian College Sabres (19-11, 13-5 NAC). The Eagles were defeated 1-2 in game one, but emerged victorious in game two, 7-5.

In game one, Cory McCullick (Hudson, Ill.) scored the Eagles’ only run in the first inning off of a hit to center field by designated hitter Ryan Siebert (Winthrop Harbor, Ill.). Pitcher Cody Flynn (Eureka, Calif.) pitched a good game, striking out nine batters and allowing only six hits and five walks, but it was not enough as the Sabres posted two runs in the third inning.

Game two appeared to end up like game one as the Eagles broke to a 3-0 lead in the fourth, but were answered back in the sixth when the Sabres brought in five runs off of a couple errors and a hard-hit, three RBI triple down the right field line. Nate Marlowe (South Milwaukee, Wis.) was able to keep the Sabres’ run count at five as Edgewood College was able to pull in four more runs and earn their place in the NAC tournament.
