HOWARD’S GROVE, Wis. (April 9, 2007) – Edgewood College was swept by the Muskies at Lakeland College in a Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader Monday. The Eagles were hitless in an 8-0 loss in game one and then fell 4-2 in the nightcap. It was the first time Edgewood College had been swept by a conference opponent in nearly four years.
Muskies freshman pitcher Sara Roberts retired 14 of the 15 batters she faced, including one walk and four strikeouts in game one. Meanwhile, the Lakeland College offense scattered 11 hits. The Muskies broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning by plating a pair of runs en route to the five-inning decision.
The first run of the day for Edgewood College came on an RBI double by Jamie Kurt (Dane, Wis.) in the bottom of the first inning of game two to knot the score at 1-1. The Muskies took the lead for good, however, by scoring two more runs in the top of the second.
Lakeland College swept the Eagles in Howard's Grove on April 17, 2003. That was the last time Edgewood College was swept by league opponent.
Monday’s game temperatures were in the 30s. Edgewood College is scheduled to play its home opener at McGaw Park in Fitchburg this Thursday, April 12 despite four to seven inches of snow forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday.
