Eagles split last home DH of season

, Wis. (April 30, 2007) – In their last home games of the season at McGaw Park the Edgewood College softball team split a Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader with Rockford College. The Regents took game one 4-2 before getting blown out by the Eagles 15-1 in a five-inning nightcap.

 

Colleen Joyce (Madison, Wis.) tied up game one, 2-2, with her two-out single in the bottom of the first inning which scored Jamie Kurt (Dane, Wis.) and Jennifer Stephens (St. Charles, Ill.). Jamie Prunty hit a two-run homerun to left field in the top of the sixth inning as the Regents snapped the Eagles seven-game win streak.

 

Four Eagles boasted a multi-hit game in game two led by freshman Leslie Bell (Monona, Wis.) who was 3-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored. Edgewood College scored three runs in the opening frame followed by five runs in the top of the second. Kurt blasted her team-leading sixth homer of the season, a three-run shot, to highlight a five-run third inning. The Eagles scattered 12 hits altogether and also benefited from four Regent errors.

 

Jenna Ryan (Waunakee, Wis.) took the loss in game one, her first loss in her last seven outings. Kristin Borre (Beloit, Wis.) won her fifth straight decision to climb to 11-9 on the season.

 

Edgewood College has now concluded regular season league play with a 14-8 record in the NAC. The Eagles are 20-14 overall, the fourth time in J.P. Richards’ five seasons as head coach the team has reached the 20-win mark.

 

The Eagles enter the 2007 Northern Athletics Conference Softball Tournament hosted by top-seeded Aurora University as the No. 5 seed and will play No. 4 Benedictine University in the opening game of the tournament. That game is scheduled for 3 p.m. this Thursday, May 3 at Jericho Park in Aurora, Ill. For more information on the NAC Tournament visit www.northernathleticsconf.com.

 

Edgewood College will play a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at UW-Platteville to conclude the regular season. First pitch versus the Pioneers is slated for 4 p.m.
