Eagles clinch spot in NAC Tourney with weekend wins

(April 29, 2007) – Edgewood College clinched its spot in the six-team Northern Athletics Conference Softball Tournament scheduled to begin later this week by concluding the past weekend with a 4-0 record, sweeping doubleheaders with Alverno College and Wisconsin Lutheran College while improving to 19-13 overall (13-7 NAC).

 

The Eagles, who have also won seven straight, have managed a 7-1 record at home after starting the season with 24 consecutive road games. Edgewood College downed Alverno College 9-1 and 12-1 in a pair of five-inning contests on Saturday, April 28 at Ceniti Park in Verona. The Eagles then squeaked past Wisconsin Lutheran 2-0 on before surviving 12-9 in 12 innings in Sunday’s nightcap at McGaw Park.

 

Leslie Bell (Monona, Wis.) batted .583 in three games, including a team-high seven hits. As a team, the Eagles hit .377. Kristin Borre (Beloit, Wis.) went 3-0 in the pitcher’s circle with a 0.74 ERA. Borre had 14 strikeouts and just one walk in 19 innings pitched and one shutout.

 

Edgewood College will play its last home game of 2007 this afternoon at McGaw Park. The Eagles will host Rockford College in a doubleheader at 4 p.m.
