Ripon trip ends with a high scoring split

Matt Werner

RIPON, Wis. (April 22, 2007) – The bats were rolling for both teams in a high-scoring affair between the Edgewood College Eagles (22-9, 13-3 NAC) and the Ripon College Red Hawks (14-9, 8-0 Midwest Conference). The Red Hawks were able to shutout the Eagles in game one, 0-11, while the Eagles were able to defeat Ripon College 19-16 in game two.

In game one, the Red Hawks were able to hold the Eagles to just three hits, while scoring all eleven runs in the first four innings of their seven-inning contest. Ripon College’s John Dunlavy was able to score three of those runs off a homerun to left-center field.

Game two saw the awakening of the Eagles’ bats as Edgewood College was able to put up 9 runs off of 10 hits in the first inning alone. The Eagles were able to put 10 more runs on the board including a Matt Werner (Centennial, Colo.) solo homerun to bring the Eagles to a 19-8 lead after six innings. The Red Hawks put up a fight, scoring eight unanswered runs in the last three innings, but that wouldn’t be enough to sweep the series for Ripon College. First-base junior Ryan Siebert (Winthrop Harbor, Ill.) went 6-for-6 with four RBIs for the contest.

The Eagles will head to Dubuque, Iowa on Tuesday, April 24 for a doubleheader against Clarke College. Game one will begin at 5:00 p.m.
