FITCHBURG, Wis. (April 22, 2007) – Edgewood College scattered 37 hits in defeating Domincan University by scores of 15-6 and 14-1 to sweep the visiting Stars at McGaw Park on Sunday. Both games lasted just five innings as the Eagles improved their team batting average by more than 20 points.

Edgewood College scored five runs in bottom of the first inning of game one and added nine more in the bottom of the third to take a 15-0 lead. The Stars, however, rallied with six runs in the top of the fourth before succumbing to the loss. Every batter in the Eagles lineup had at least one hit.

Seven players had a multi-hit game led by Jennifer Stephens (St. Charles, Ill.) and Colleen Joyce (Madison, Wis.) who went 3-for-4 at the plate, and Leslie Bell (Monona, Wis.) who drove in three runs and scored twice. Kristin Borre (Beloit, Wis.) earned the win after allowing just two hits in three innings of work.

The Eagles led 1-0 going into the top of the third inning in game two. That’s when the Edgewood College bats erupted for seven runs on seven hits and four Dominican errors. The Stars’ defense committed 10 errors in the contest, which led to eight unearned runs. Bell garnered three more hits to finish the day 5-for-7, and fellow freshman Danielle Acker (Waunakee, Wis.) had a game-high four RBIs.

Jenna Ryan (Waunakee, Wis.) picked up the win to improve to 8-4. Stephens pitched the last two innings and struck out five of the six batters she faced in her first appearance of the season. Offensively, Edgewood College entered the day batting .291 as a team and will go into next week hitting .314.
