Nate Marlowe

LISLE, Ill. (April 21, 2007) – The Edgewood College Eagles (21-8, 13-3 NAC) added two more wins as they defeated the Eagles of Benedictine University (11-16, 5-9 NAC). The Edgewood College baseball team beat Benedictine University by one run in game one, 3-2, and was able to complete game two in seven innings, 12-1.

Game one was mostly a defensive game as the two teams combined for three hits in the first 4 innings. Sophomore catcher Matt Werner (Centennial, Colo.) made the first run of the evening by hitting a homerun to left field in the fifth inning. Benedictine’s Eagles would answer back with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning. Both Eagle teams would score their second runs in the seventh inning, but sophomore Alex Berta (Normal, Ill.) would bat in Karl Reynolds (Dodgeville, Wis.) to score the winning run of game one.

Game two took a different tone as sophomore Nate Marlowe (South Milwaukee, Wis.) pitched the entire seven-inning game and allow only one unearned run on two hits while striking out five batters. At the same time, the Edgewood College Eagle batters would score 12 runs off of 18 hits including Berta, who went 4-for-4 with two RBIs.

The Edgewood College Eagles will head to Ripon, Wis. to play a doubleheader against Ripon College. The first pitch is scheduled for noon.
