VERONA, Wis. (April 19th, 2007) -- The Edgewood College baseball team won both of their games against Maranatha Baptist Bible College Thursday night to improve to 11-3 in the Northern Athletics Conference. In game one, the Eagles were led on the offensive end by Cory McCullick (Hudson, Ill.) who went 4-for-5 with 4 RBI's and were backed up on defense by a stellar outing from freshman Mark Belcastro (Downer's Grove, Ill.), who picked up his first collegiate victory in a complete game effort on the mound to beat the Crusaders (4-15, 1-11 NAC) 11-2. McCullick again led the charge for the Eagle offense in game two by tallying three more hits to make him 7-for-9 on the day with 6 RBI's to lead the Eagles to a 9-3 victory.

In game one, the Eagles jumped out to an early lead in the first inning after Tyler Dahmen (Madison, Wis.) hit a two-run triple to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead. The Crusaders got right back into the game in the next inning as they plated two runs on three hits and a error to knot the score at 2-2. But the Eagles got right back to it as they answered with two more runs in the 2nd inning as McCullick came through with a two out 2-RBI single to give the Eagles the 4-2 lead. The Eagles would not let up as they scored a run in each of the next six innings to secure the 11-2 victory. Belcastro threw all nine innings for the Eagles and gave up six hits, two earned runs while walking five and striking out four. Ryan Siebert (Winthrop Harbor, Ill.) chipped in at the plate as he went 3-for-4 with three runs while Dahmen and Jimy Landwehr (Hartland, Wis.) both added two hits.

In game two, it was Maranatha who plated runs in each of the first three innings to take a 3-2 lead into the third until Dahmen laid down a push bunt to second base where a throwing error allowed Siebert to score from second base to tie the game at 3-3. Landwehr then drove in Dahmen with a RBI single to right center to take a 4-3 lead. After starting pitcher Tim Richardson (Waunakee, Wis.) and the Eagle defense kept the Crusaders scoreless in the fourth inning, the Eagles went back to business as they extended the lead to 7-3 after they pounded out five hits to plate three runs highlighted by a 2-RBI single by Siebert. Richardson then shut down the Crusader bats for the next

two innings before giving way to Brad DeVault (Cottage Grove, Wis.) who finished the game with three scoreless innings to pick up the save and preserve Richardson's first collegiate victory. Richardson went six strong innings on the hill giving up nine hits and two earned runs. McCullick's three hits led Eagle hitters while Dahmen, Siebert, and Nate Meyer (Waterford, Wis.) all had two hits for the Eagles.

The Eagles look to improve their conference record and standing as they travel to Lisle, Ill. for a double-header with Benedictine University on Saturday, April 21st with the first game slated for a 3:00 p.m. start.
