(March 28, 2007) – In just his fifth season at Edgewood College, head softball coach J.P. Richards earned his 100th victory by virtue of a sweep at Northern Athletics Conference opponent Maranatha Baptist Bible College on Wednesday. The Eagles won scores of 9-0 and 10-1.
Senior pitcher Kristin Borre (Beloit, Wis.) hurled a one-hit complete game shutout in game one, which only lasted six innings. Offensively, Jennifer Stephens (St. Charles, Ill.) had three of the team’s nine hits. Jessica Stephens (St. Charles, Ill.), Noelle Wimer (Dodgeville, Wis.), and Colleen Joyce (Madison, Wis.) each drove in a pair of runs. Jessica Stephens blasted her second homerun of the season, a two-run shot, in the top of the second inning.
Jenna Ryan (Waunakee, Wis.) earned the victory in game two, which was also shortened to five innings. The Eagles exploded for 10 runs on just five hits, including a nine-run inning in the third frame. Eight different Eagles crossed home plate in the victory.
With the two victories, the Eagles improve their overall season record to 7-5 (2-0 NAC), while the Crusaders fell to 5-9 (0-2 NAC)
Richards entered this season with a 94-68 overall record. He has led the Eagles to back-to-back titles in the former Lake Michigan Conference and two NCAA Division III Tournament berths.
