ROCKFORD, Ill. (March 27, 2007) – The Edgewood College Eagles (9-6, 2-2 NAC) split in their first road conference game against the Rockford College Regents (6-7, 3-1 NAC). They fell 4-8 in game one and came back to defeat the Regents 6-2 in the game two.

In game one, the Eagle offense did not play well as they only got six runners on base in the first eight innings. Defensively, sophomore Rick Walsh (Green Lake, Wis.) struggled early, giving up one run in the second. After striking out five batters in the course of three innings, Walsh faced a bit of trouble, giving up four more runs. Freshman pitcher, Brad DeVault (Cottage Grove, Wis.) would complete the next four innings, giving up just three runs in the seventh. The Eagles started hitting well in the ninth inning, but even going against three different pitchers, the Eagles finished short with four runs.

Things changed for Edgewood College in game two as the Eagles brought back those four runs to start the first inning. The Regents could only answer back with a single run in their half of the inning. The next four innings would be a pitcher’s duel between the Regents’ Brian Durlak and the Eagles’ Nathan Marlowe (South Milwaukee, Wis.). In the sixth inning, both teams scored their last runs of the game when Edgewood College scored two to top the inning and Rockford College could only bring in one.
