VERONA, Wis. (March 24, 2007) -- The Edgewood College baseball team opened their Northern Athletics Conference season with a split with the Concordia University-Chicago Cougars Saturday at Charles Stampfl field in Verona. In game one of the double-header, the Eagles pounded out 15 hits en route to a 12-5 victory but were up ended in the nightcap as they were held to only one hit as they lost 7-2.

In game one, the Cougars (8-6, 1-1 NAC) got on the board early as they brought three runners to the plate in the top half of the first to give the Cougars an early 3-0 lead. The Eagles (8-5, 1-1 NAC) kept quiet until the bottom of the fourth when Karl Reynolds (Dodgeville, Wis.) and Alex Berta (Normal, Ill.) were both hit by pitches and after they both advanced on wild pitches, Ryan Siebert (Winthrop Harbor, Ill.) came through with a 2 RBI single to left field. Tyler Dahmen (Madison, Wis.) then followed Siebert with a double over the left fielders head to plate Siebert to tie the game at 3-3. Freshman phenom Jimy Landwehr (Hartland, Wis.) singled in the next at bat and Steve Binder (Downer's Grove, Ill.) hit a hard shot to third base which couldn't be handled cleanly which scored the final run of the inning in Dahmen. Meanwhile on the defensive end, starting pitcher Cody Flynn (Eureka, Cal.) settled down after the first inning and kept the Cougars scoreless for the next five at bats. In the Eagles next at bat, they kept up the hot hitting as they scored five more runs and followed that up with a three-run sixth inning to put the Cougars away. Dahmen and Landwehr led the Eagles in hitting as the senior went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI's and 3 runs scored while the freshman went 4-for-5.

In game two it was a different story for the Eagle hitters as they were limited to only one hit off of Cougar pitching. The Cougars scored in each of their first three at bats which was highlighted by a three-run blast from first basemen J.D Rotzoll which gave the Cougars a 5-0 lead. The Eagles fought back to score two runs in the fourth but the Cougars tacked on two more runs in the fifth and sixth to keep the Eagles at bay.

The Eagles will return to action on Tuesday, March 27th with a double-header against Rockford College in Rockford, Ill. The first game is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
