Eagles lose first game of southern trip

Karl Reynolds

(March 15, 2007) – The Edgewood College baseball team lost the first of their now five-game southern road trip against the Buccaneers of Christian Brothers University. After a cancellation of the first game, the Bucs pulled off a 7-4 victory over the Eagles in 9 innings.

Eagle junior Karl Reynolds (Dodgeville, Wis.) started the first inning strong with a hit and managed to get into scoring position, but he wasn’t able to score the run as the next three batters were put out. The Bucs were able to score run one in the first off of junior pitcher Cody Flynn (Eureka, Calif.). The Eagles were not hitting the ball well as they only put three runners on base from then on through the eighth inning (two walks and a hit). In the meantime, Christian Brothers University was able to convert six more runs.

The top of the ninth inning was led off by freshman shortstop Steve Binder (Downer’s Grove, Ill.) hitting the ball through the shortstop. That was followed by a hit batsman and a walk to load the bases. Junior Ryan Siebert (Winthrop Harbor, Ill.) hit a solid shot to center field to bring in the Eagles’ first run of the game. This was followed by two back-to-back hits by freshman Jimy Landwehr (Hartland, Wis.) and sophomore Matt Werner (Centennial, Colo.) which brought in two more runs and kept the bases loaded. The next batter was struck out for the first out in the inning. Sophomore Cory McCullick (Hudson, Ill.) was walked for run four for the Eagles. Reynolds was up next and hit a ground ball to the third baseman who turned the double play to end the game.
