MADISON, Wis. (February 3, 2007) -- After jumping out to a commanding lead in the first half, the Edgewood College Eagles watched the Dominican Stars climb back and eventually force overtime at the Todd Wehr Edgedome on Saturday. Edgewood College escaped with a 77-76 victory and got an historical performance by Charlie Averkamp (New Berlin, Wis.).

Averkamp collected the first known triple-double in Edgewood College men's basketball history as the the 6-foot-6 junior forward finished with 15 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists. He reached double figures in all three categories with a rebound and putback off a missed Chris DeMarco (Appleton, Wis.) free throw three minutes remaining in regulation.

The Eagles (13-6, 11-2 NAC), who out-rebounded the Stars 50-31, held the lead for the entire first period as they went on a 15-0 run with just under 14 minutes remaining to bring the lead to 18. The Stars (12-8, 9-5 NAC) then attempted a comeback as they went on their own 11-0 run until Brian Donais (Milwaukee, Wis.) broke the streak with a three-pointer. The Eagles again watched their lead drop to as many as six until Averkamp drilled a three of his own to bring the lead back to nine. The Eagles went into the half with a 10 point lead.

With under eight minutes in second period the Stars went on a tear as they went on a 12-0 run as they took the first lead of the evening with just over five minutes. With three minutes remaining, Averkamp cut the Stars lead to one after he nailed a jumper. Kyle Scott (Burlington, Wis.) made one of two free-throws to bring the score to a tie with 2:11 in the second half.

With just over a minute remaining, Erin McMillan of Dominican drilled a three-pointer to give the Stars a three point lead. Scott answered however on the next possesion by burying a trey of his own. After a missed three point attempt by the Stars, Scott came up short on the game winning attempt at the buzzer.

In overtime, the Eagles held onto a four point lead with under two minutes in the game until McMillan again played hero by hitting a three to cut the Eagle lead to one. But Scott iced the game by drilling both of his free-throws to ensure the Eagle victory.

DeMarco, who was battling the flu, led the Eagles in scoring with 21 points on the evening. It's the eighth straight game and 14th time overall DeMarco has led the team this season. Scott made five three pointers in the victory and cashed in with 19 points.

The Eagles now travel to Aurora, Ill. for a contest with the other top ranked team in the NAC. Live streaming audio will be available by logging on to www.EdgewoodCollegeEagles.com beginning at 6:45.
