MADISON, Wis. (February 15, 2007) -- The Edgewood College men's basketball team shot over 54 percent from the field as they completed the sweep of Concordia University-Wisconsin Thursday night at the Todd Wehr Edgedome with a 83-55 win. Early this week the Eagles clinched at least a No. 2 seed in the Northern Athletics Conference tournament and will host their semifinal opponent on Friday, Feb. 23 at 7:05 p.m.
After a back-and-forth battle with the Falcons (8-16, 7-10 NAC) in the early part of the first half, Kyle Scott (Burlington, Wis.) nailed a jumper to give the Eagles (15-7, 13-3 NAC) a 15-14 edge which would be the final time where the Eagles would trail in the game. Despite shooting only 22.6 percent from the field, the Falcons stuck with the Eagles for the next five minutes until Chris DeMarco (Appleton, Wis.) converted on a nice feed by Charlie Averkamp (New Berlin, Wis.) to give the Eagles a comfortable lead of 10 with just under four mintes in the half.
In the second half, the Eagles came out firing on all cylinders as they went on a 13-2 run to begin the half to bring the Eagle lead to 20. The Falcons never got closer than 17 as Scott kept them at bay by catching fire and drilling three consecutive three-pointers en route to his game high 18 points.
Jon Ciche (Franklin, Wis.) notched a career high 14 rebounds as he added in nine points. Averkamp tallied another double-double by gathering 11 rebounds and 14 points.
The Eagles will honor seniors Kyle Scott and Les Wilkinson (Blue Mounds, Wis.) Saturday before the home regular season finale with Benedictine University. Tip-off is slated for 4:30 and live audio can be heard by logging on to www.EdgewoodCollegeEagles.com or broadcast on Relevant Radio 1240 AM
