MADISON, Wis. (Dec. 15,2007) – John Fahey had a career-high 21 points as the Edgewood College men’s basketball team defeated Dominican University 81-75, Saturday at the Edgedome. The Eagles held a one point halftime advantage before taking control of the game in the second half, leading by as many as 15 points in the six point victory.

Holding a slim one point 43-42 lead, Chris DeMarco scored two layups on consecutive possessions as the Eagles went on a 6-0 run that expanded the lead to a more comfortable seven points. Later in the second half the Eagles would go on an 11-3 scoring run pushing the margin from seven points to a game high 15 points at 66-51 with 7:20 remaining. Dominican would rally but never came closer than within six points of the Eagles for the remainder of the game.

The game featured the league’s top two rebounders in Dominican’s Mike Haiduc and the Eagle's Charlie Averkamp. Both players finished with six rebounds apiece, slightly below each players average production.  John Fahey, after being held scoreless in the Eagles previous two home games, came out scoring a career high 21 points to lead all scorers. Fahey converted all 12 of his free throws and went four-for-five from the field. Chris DeMarco and Charlie Averkamp joined Fahey scoring in double figures with 18 and 12 points each. Five Dominican players finished in double figures, including Mike Haiduc who scored a team high 16 points.

The win ended a two game home losing streak. Edgewood College had not lost three consecutive home games since February 1997.

With the win the Eagles improve to 3-5 on the season and 2-2 in conference play, while the Stars fall to 3-6 and 1-3 in the NAC. Edgewood College next game won’t be until December 28, when the team travels to Santa Barbara, Calif. to take on Puget Sound (Wash.) at the Tom Byron Classic hosted by Westmont College. Game time is 7:30 p.m. and live stats will be available.
