WOOD DALE, Ill. (October 8, 2007) -- The Edgewood College men's golf team put together its best effort of the 2007 season as they finished 2nd out of 15 teams this past weekend and eclipsed school records for both a 36 hole total (592) and an 18 hole total (290) at the Benedictine Invitational at Maple Meadows Golf Course.

In their second to last competition of the fall, the College put together its finest outing as both Austin McGinley (Mt. Horeb, Wis.) and John Bailey (Madison, Wis.) carded 71's (+1) in round one to help pace the Eagles with a school low score of 290 (previous school record 298, '05). The Eagles did not give up any ground in round number two as they shot a combined 302  to give them an overall score of 592 (previous school record 607, '05). Their performance was only bettered by Luther College's 583 as the College finished ahead of all other NAC teams that competed.

McGinley led the Eagles as he combined for a 146 which was good enough for a tie in 7th place individually. Bailey and Joe Schwartz (McFarland, Wis.) followed closely as they tied with each other at 11th place with scores of 148. Andy Hosking (Madison, Wis.) trailed them by only two strokes as he placed tied for 15th.

The Eagles take this much needed momentum as they gear up for the NAC Championship at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wis. with round one beginning on October 15th and wrapping up with round two on the 16th.
