AURORA, Ill. (Oct. 31, 2007) – The #2 seeded Aurora men’s soccer team defeated #3 seeded Edgewood College 1-1, by virtue of winning a shootout 3-2, Wednesday October 31 in a NAC semi-final tournament game. The loss almost certainly eliminates the Eagles from an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III soccer playoffs.
After a scoreless first half Eagle’s Kevin Fisher (Green Bay, Wis.), fresh off a three goal performance against Lakeland in the first round; netted the first goal of the game off a Jim Brandon (DeForest, Wis.) assist in the 50th minute. The Spartans would fight back however, as Jim Spann scored for the Spartans in the 72nd minute. Aurora had 13 shots in the second half and out shot Edgewood College 25-5 in the game. After ninety minutes the score was deadlocked at 1-1 and went into overtime. Twenty minutes later the game was still scoreless and went into a shootout with Aurora connecting on 3 opportunities to the Eagles 2. Eagle goalkeeper Francisco Yacuta-Santana (Verona, Wis.) had ten saves on the day in the loss. It was the second time in less than a week that Aurora had defeated Edgewood College. Aurora beat the Eagles 1-0 on Saturday October 27.
The loss drops the Eagles record to 10-7-1 on the year while Aurora is now 12-3-5. The #2 seeded Spartans will travel to River Forest, Ill. on Saturday November 3 to take on the #1 seeded Dominican University in the NAC Championship game.
