AURORA, Ill. (Oct. 27, 2007) – Edgewood College allowed a goal for the first time in 438 minutes as the #26 ranked Spartans defeated the Eagles 1-0, Saturday in Aurora, Ill. The win clinched the regular season Northern Athletics Conference title for the Spartans.
Aurora’s Kendra Sickinger netted the game winner off a Kim Knaub assist, in the 63rd minute to seal the game for the Spartans. The goal ended the Eagles streak of 438 minutes without an opponent scoring, a record spanning over the last five contests. Eagle goalkeeper Ilana Bar-av (Madison, Wis.) recorded five saves on the day.
There was plenty at stake in the game as both teams came into the contest a perfect 11-0, with the winner taking the conference title and top seed in the NAC tournament. Additionally Edgewood College had not lost a conference game since losing 1-0 at Dominican University on September 30, 2006.
Edgewood College falls to 15-3 on the year and 11-1 in NAC play. The Eagles are an impressive 20-3 overall in NAC conference play over the last two years. The win improves the Spartans record to 17-2-1 overall and 12-0 in the NAC. Despite the loss Edgewood College will still receive a first round bye in the NAC tournament as they will host a semifinal game on Thursday, November 1 at Warner Park.
