Eagles outlast Crusaders in double overtime

WATERTOWN, Wis. (Oct. 18, 2007) – The Edgewood College men’s soccer team rallied from a 1-0 deficit to defeat Maranatha Baptist Bible College 2-1 in double overtime Thursday in Watertown, Wis. Edgewood College played with ten men for a majority of the game after Dan Butz (DePere, Wis.) was given a red card just 4 minutes into the second half.

Maranatha Baptist kicked off the scoring with a goal by Andrew Solarek in the 29th minute off a Kirk Riffel pass. Maranatha Baptist would take the 1-0 lead into halftime. The Eagles knotted the score at 1-1 in the 77th minute when Mike Bourgeois (Hartford, Wis.) scored, assisted by Shaun Glynn (Prairie du Sac, Wis.) and Tyler Duellman (South Milwaukee, Wis.). The score would remain at 1-1 until the second overtime when Jake Andreska (South Milwaukee, Wis.) scored the game winner unassisted in the 1st minute of double overtime (101st minute overall). Crusader goalie Daniel Kaminski had 14 saves on the day.

Edgewood College improves to 8-5 on the year and 6-2 in Northern Athletics Conference play, while Maranatha Baptist drops to 5-11 overall 1-7 in conference. The Eagles will return home on Saturday for a non-conference game versus regionally ranked UW-Oshkosh (#6 in Central Region). Gametime is 3:00 at Warner Park.
