La Crosse, Wis. (Sept. 2, 2006) -- Edgewood College opened the 2006 season with four matches this past weekend at the UW-La Crosse Invitational. The Eagles, who have been battling injuries since preseason practices began, dropped to 0-4, but one bright spot was senior Inthava Borihane (Green Bay, Wis.), who was named to the eight-person all-tournament team.

In Friday's opening match, Edgewood fell victim to Clarke College, 3-1 (30-27, 26-30, 30-17, 30-20). Sophomore setter Dayna McCauley (Cuba City, Wis.) tallied 24 assists and was a perfect 2-for-2 on attacks. Against the attack, Borihane paced the Eagles with 18 digs in the four-game match.

Then a couple of more injuries forced head coach Paul Schlomer to move the 5-foot-4 Borihane to outside hitter, as the Eagles were downed by Coe College, 3-0 (30-15, 30-14, 30-21).

On Saturday, Edgewood lost its first match to Luther College, 3-0 (30-19, 30-12, 30-23). Borihane led the Eagles with seven kills in 31 attack attempts, in addition to nine digs. McCauley dished out 14 assists.

Then the Eagles dropped a 3-0 (30-14, 30-27, 30-18) decision to host UW-La Crosse. Borihane registered nine more kills followed by five kills from freshman Laura Horsch (New Holstein, Wis.). McCauley added 17 assists to her season total, while junior Ashly Sheild (Oconomowoc, Wis.) posted 16 digs.

Edgewood's home opener at the Todd Wehr Edgedome is slated for this Wednesday, Sept. 6 as the Eagles get set to take on Ripon College at 7 p.m.
