MADISON, Wis. (September 26, 2006) – Edgewood College won its third straight volleyball match on Tuesday with a 3-2 (30-27, 20-30, 30-22, 27-30, 15-7) win over Rockford College at the Todd Wehr Edgedome. Kim Paskey (Poynette, Wis.) posted 18 kills and five blocks to lead a strong supporting cast in the Eagles’ victory.
The Eagles (3-12, 3-1 NAC) won a pivotal game three in which they trailed by as many as eight points. Rockford (2-8, 2-1 NAC) raced out to an early 8-0 lead and quickly extended it to an 11-3 advantage before Edgewood slowly made its way back.
Greta Gueths (Shawano, Wis.) notched one of her 12 kills to tie the game at 17-17 and an ensuing attack error by the Regents’ Clara Wiersma gave the Eagles their first lead of the game. The two teams traded points until Rockford held a 21-20 lead and then the Eagles’ Hannah Schultz (Clinton, Wis.) served up eight consecutive points to give Edgewood a 28-22 cushion. Karyn Jordahl (Portage, Wis.) finished off the long Eagles rally with a service ace to finally put the game away.
Paskey, who also hit .359 in the match, was one of three Eagles to tally double figures in kills. Laura Horsch (New Holstein, Wis.) and Gueths finished with 13 and 12 kills, respectively.
Setter Dayna McCauley (Cuba City, Wis.) tied a career-high with 47 assists. McCauley also had 16 digs and eight kills, just two kills shy of recording her first triple-double. Defensively, Inthava Borihane (Green Bay, Wis.) led Edgewood with 23 digs, while Schultz finished with 11.
Four Regents posted double figures in kills led by Wiersma’s match-high 22 kills. Libero Alex Peterson ended up with 47 digs.
