Klees’ goal lifts Eagles past Macalester College

MADISON, Wis. (September 2, 2006) – Edgewood College grabbed the advantage over Macalester College on a goal by Evan Klees (Madison, Wis.) at the 55:31 mark Saturday, as the Eagles went on to win 1-0 at Breese Stevens Field.

With the scored knotted at 0-0, something finally gave when Kevin Fisher (Green Bay, Wis.) found a streaking Jerrid Dokey (Green Bay, Wis.), who played a beautiful through pass to Klees. Klees then beat the lone Scots defender and took it into the goal box where he screamed a shot past Macalester keeper Ryan Palmer for the eventual game-winner.

Edgewood mounted plenty of additional scoring opportunities, especially late in the second half, as it looked as if the Scots became a bit fatigued by the speed of the Eagle Eleven. At least a handful of times in the final period Edgewood got past or greatly threatened the back line of the Macalester defense.

An aggressive match by both teams, the Scots now find themselves with an 0-2 record to start the 2006 season following the loss, while the Eagles improve to 1-0-1 following last night’s scoreless tie against visiting Gustavus Adolphus College.

Edgewood will host St. Norbert College at Breese Stevens Field on Wednesday, Sept. 6 at 8 p.m.
