MADISON, Wis. (September 9, 2006) -- Senior Nicole Gluzinski (Lindenhurst, Ill.) captured medalist honors Saturday by winning her first collegiate tournament since the 2003 Lake Michigan Conference Championship. Gluzinski shot nine strokes better than Wisconsin Lutheran's Abbie Lecy and Eagles teammate Kaitlyn Herzog (Waukesha, Wis.) to seperate herself from the field.
Playing the East Course at Yahara Hills Golf Course, Gluzinski fired an 84 on Saturday, which was also four strokes better than her first round score on Friday while playing the West Course. Her two-day total was 172 giving Gluzinski an impressive margin of victory over Lecy (185) considering Gluzinski led by just two strokes after the first round of play.
Herzog, who shot a 91 on day one, followed with a 95 on Saturday en route to a third place finish at 186, one stroke behind Lecy.
Lakeland College captured the team title with a 938 to finish ahead of Wisconsin Lutheran College at 953. Gluzinski and Herzog both played as individuals in the tournament, as Edgewood College did not enter enough golfers to tally a team score.
