MILWAUKEE, Wis. (May 6, 2006) -- Edgewood College was eliminated from the Lake Michigan Conference softball tournament following a pair of losses Saturday. The top-seeded Eagles (30-13) dropped a 7-2 decision to eventual tournament champion Concordia University in the early game. Marian College then rallied to a 2-1 win over Edgewood in the next contest.
Concordia scattered 11 hits and took advantage of three Eagle errors – all of which came in a three-run bottom of the fourth for the Falcons. Concordia pitcher Sara Rennicke silenced the Edgewood bats in her last four innings. Jennifer Stephens (St. Charles, Ill.) and Nichole Johnson (Waunakee, Wis.) each picked up two hits in game one.
In game two, a two-out single that plated two Sabre runs in the top of the third inning was all the offense pitcher Julie Skenandore required en route to a complete-game victory. Edgewood out-hit Marian 6-4, but scoring opportunities were limited. Jamie Kurt (Dane, Wis.) pounded out two of the Eagles’ hits and scored their only run.
The Eagles were crowned back-to-back LMC regular season champions, finishing with a perfect 16-0 record in the league in 2006. Edgewood won LMC tournament championships in 2004 and 2005.
