Eagles rout WLC to capture series sweep

VERONA, Wis. (April 29, 2006) -- Edgewood College won game one of a Lake Michigan Conference baseball doubleheader against Wisconsin Lutheran College 17-2 on Saturday. The Eagles then took the nightcap 7-2 when the game was called in the middle of the eighth inning due to rain.

Edgewood scored eight runs in the bottom of the second inning of game one and scored five more times in the bottom of the eighth to highlight the lopsided contest. Tyler Dahmen (Madison, Wis.), who collected six hits on the day, went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs to lead Edgewood at the plate in the first game. Andrew Handorf (DeForest, Wis.) pitched a complete game to improve his record to 3-0 on the mound. Handorf struck out seven without allowing an earned run.

Ryan Halliburton (Dewey, Ariz.) was equally impressive on the hill in game two. Halliburton fanned 10 batters and allowed five hits and one earned run in eight complete innings of work.

Four Edgewood hitters had two hits, includin Nick Wilz (Appleton, Wis.) who also scored two runs and stoled a couple of bases.

Edgewood will host Maranatha Baptist Bible College in doubleheader, marking the final home games of the 2006 season season, this Friday, May 5 at Stampfl Field.
