Eagles win first game of series with WLC

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (April 27, 2006) – Sophomore Karl Reynolds (Dodgeville, Wis.) had three stolen bases and scored twice by the second inning as Edgewood College (23-12, 12-4 LMC) was on its way to a 10-4 win Thursday at Wisconsin Lutheran College.

The Warriors (7-25, 5-11 LMC) didn’t go away quietly, however. Edgewood starting pitcher Cody Flynn (Eureka, Calif.) was touched up for five hits and three runs with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Wisconsin Lutheran left the bases loaded, but had knotted the score at 3-3.

Alex Berta’s (Normal, Ill.) triple in the top of the sixth drove in the go-ahead and eventual game-winning run. The Eagles then added three runs in the seventh on an inside-the-park homerun by John Fish (Wisconsin Dells, Wis.) and a two-run scoring single by Jesse Anderson (Rochester, Minn.).

Rick Walsh (Green Lake, Wis.) was brought in to close the game in relief of Flynn, who struck out 11 in seven innings on the mound. Walsh gave up three hits, including a run, in the bottom of the ninth, but Edgewood already had the game well in hand.

Fish and Anderson, along with Tyler Dahmen (Madison, Wis.) and Andrew Handorf (DeForest, Wis.) all had two hits each.

Edgewood will host the Warriors in a doubleheader at home this Saturday, April 29. First pitch is scheduled for noon. There will be free Subway sandwiches for Edgewood College faculty, staff, and students as we celebrate "Fan Appreciation Day" at Stampfl Field. Also catch the faculty/staff vs. students charity softball game at 11 a.m.
